Learn how to create a CNAME DNS record with your domain provider to get in-depth tracking information.

To ensure that you’re tracking links are completely functional, you’ll need to create a CNAME DNS record for each link.

Note: This process will look different depending on the website provider that you use. Here are a few different guides on how to do it using major providers: Siteground, GoDaddy, Bluehost, A2 Hosting, DreamHost, and Hostinger.

To configure a CNAME DNS record with your provider:

1. Log in to your domain provider.

2. Locate the domain that you want to create a custom tracking link for. If you only have one domain, skip this step.

3. Go to manage/edit DNS records for that domain.

4. Create a new DNS record by Adding a new CNAME record with the type, host, and value information provided below.

Note: There is a different hostname and value assigned to each tracking link. Make sure you include the correct value for your link to function properly. You can also find this under the domain tracking button in your email settings.

Type: CNAME

Host (unsubscribe): hostname

Host (open tracking): open

Host (click tracking): click

Value (unsubscribe tracking): 1.wcunsubs.com

Value (open tracking): 1.wcopen.com

Value (click tracking): 1.wcclick.com

5. Save the DNS record in your domain provider.

6. To check that your DNS record is set up properly, type the hostname and URL into my toolbox. For example, if you wanted to check if your unsubscribe link was working, type hostname.We-Connect.io into the chatbox.

7. Once completed, confirm your CNAME DNS record on We-Connect following the instructions below.

To add a custom CNAME DNS record to We-Connect:

1. Head to the email settings page under the settings tab.

2. Click the edit button in the top right corner of your screen to make changes to your email settings.

3. Click the “custom domain” button to insert a tracking link and your CNAME DNS record into the popup.

4. Add your custom tracking domain and check to make sure your DNS record is properly set up. Once complete, scroll to the bottom of the popup and hit “add.”

Your email domain and CNAME DNS record should now be properly set up for optimized email deliverability and tracking.
