Generate an API key and secret key in We-Link to authenticate your app and securely manage LinkedIn outreach through API requests.

To start using We-Link API, you'll need to create an API key and secret key. These act as secure credentials that authenticate your API requests and define how your software interacts with We-Link.

Think of the API key as a unique identifier for you, and the secret key as a password that ensures only authorized systems can access the features you’ve enabled. Together, they help you control access, maintain security, and monitor usage.

This article walks you through how to generate both from We-Link.

Step 1: Go to the Security tab and click ‘Create API Key

From your We-Link dashboard, head to SettingsSecurity. Then click the Create API Key button to begin.

Step 2: Name your API key

Give your API key a clear name so you can easily identify it later. This is especially useful if you're managing multiple integrations or environments.

Here are some examples:

  • “Client CRM integration”

  • “Internal staging key”

Step 3: Customize key access

You can control exactly how the key is used by selecting:

  • IP restrictions: Limit the key’s usage to specific IP addresses. This is strongly recommended for security.

  • Allowed actions: Choose which API calls this key can make—such as sending messages, retrieving profile data, or triggering follow-ups.

Step 4: Save and store your keys

After setting permissions, click Save. Your API key and secret key will appear on screen.

These credentials will only be shown once. Be sure to copy and store them somewhere safe, as We-Link does not display them again. If they’re lost, you’ll need to create a new key.

Once your key is created, you're ready to connect your app and start sending authenticated requests. Need help with webhooks or testing? Our support team is ready to assist—just reach out via the chat in the bottom-right corner of the website or app.
